Versteel has long been actively involved with BIFMA, the trade association for business and institutional furniture manufacturers. This year, we’re proud to announce that our Director of Engineering, Jerry Nichols, has been selected as Chair of the Desk/Table Subcommittee – part of the association’s Engineering Standards Committee.
As Chair of the subcommittee, Jerry will lead and facilitate meetings relevant to the ANSI/BIFMA X5.5 standards in the maintenance and updating of those standards. He will also work in tandem with the Vice Chair, in the interpretation of the standards in response to requests by manufacturers and consumers.
Jerry will take part in the activities of the committee as they monitor technical concerns and give each manufacturer the opportunity to keep abreast of the demands of the market for the safety and performance of products. This committee also establishes product safety and performance standards for the protection of the public.
“Our involvement with the various BIFMA subcommittees ensures that we stay informed of all of the latest developments, regulatory issues, and other topics related to the specific products covered by the BIFMA standards,” said Jerry. “It also allows us to have a seat at the table with other office furniture manufacturers, regardless of size, in the development of the product standards that we are held to.”
